Some of us stay in our suffering when there is a way out of that suffering. Understanding, however, that for so many of us it’s all we have ever known, so we stay in that suffering because it has a very comfortable quality to it, being oh so familiar.
To the egoic self stepping out of suffering is, to it…… a death, so it holds to its position. After all, it has spent a lifetime protecting you from the original pain that created that which we call suffering. It doesn’t even know what the word healing means, it understands nothing about the realms of the heart. It knows nothing outside of its reflection. Our ego believes it is the only game in town.
When you are asking these constructs to fall into the heart and the love found there, the healing process, it balks at the idea and will fight sometimes like bloody hell to stay alive, because it believes it’s the only truth. Understand, however, that it is protecting you and has done for decades in some cases.
So, be kind to the ego in the same way we would be kind to a child who is frightened and alone. It needs to know it’s safe to surrender and let go back into the absolute truth. Find people, places, and practices, teachings that will gently remind you of the love within and the suffering will dissolve when shown the door to the heart.
Beyond travail you will come to find peace, at last, that is what grief is, that’s what the process does……setting us free from our suffering and travail and finding in the fullness of time…… heaven on earth, peace, and bliss in God again. Nigel Lott
